Village Green Village of Cashiers

At 3,487' altitude and located in the blue ridge mountains of western North Carolina, the Village of Cashiers offers restaurants and inns noted for their excellent cuisine, specialty shops and nearby mountain trails and waterfalls.

The Village Green http://www.villagegreencashiersnc.com/, a two acre park, provides walking paths and a pavilion. The Village Green has also added a boardwalk that ambles through wetlands in the park. The wetlands are home to many species of birds and other wildlife.

The donation of sculpture opens the door to an untapped potential of The Village Green. The benefactors recognize the natural beauty of the park and the wetlands, as well as the emphasis on our native plants. They felt this was a perfect venue for sculpture. By being a public park, accessibility to sculpture will touch, move and inspire many people of all ages.

With varieties of award-winning dahlias nestled in a small space behind the picnic pavillion, the Dahlia trial garden is a hit with locals.  First held in 1999, The Joy Garden Tour financially supports The Village Green's commitment to "preserve, protect and enhance" the land.  Serving as the heart of the Cashiers community, this 12-acre site offers native landscaping, walking paths, a rustic pavilion, a sculpture garden and a children's playground. This year's Tour is scheduled for Friday, July 17. Funds from the Tour provide monies for maintenance, upkeep and ongoing improvements.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
                 A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of Robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
 Joyce Kilmer  (1886 - 1918)
