SAPPHIRE VALLEY Although famous for its gem mines, Sapphire Valley was better known for its gold than its gems back in the 1880s. Georgetown Creek yielded significant nuggets. The Georgetown mine, located at the foot of Bald Rock Mountain, eventually closed and area investors turned to tourism.
Bald Rock On 776 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bald Rock overlooks Sapphire Valley, Lake Fairfield and the magnificent 6,300-acres Panthertown Reserve.
