NARFE meeting: The Smoky Mountain Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) will meet at noon on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Shoney's of Lake Junaluska located at 65 Paragon Parkway near the former Walmart store. Call (828) 586-9292.

Singing planned at Yellow Mountain: Yellow Mountain Baptist Church will hold its fourth Saturday night singing on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Featured singers will be "Heavenbound" from Whittier. Everyone is invited and there will be refreshments served afterwards.

Feb. 28
Hike: The Nantahala Hiking Club will take a strenuous 7.5-mile hike to London Bald from Appletree campground with an elevation change of 2000 feet. Meet at the Nantahala Club House on Carl Slagle road in Franklin at 8:30 a.m. Drive 45 miles round trip. Call Chris Shaw, 371-0183, for reservations.

March 1
Public comments accepted by commissioners: The Jackson County Board of Commissioners will be available for public comment at 6 p.m. on March 1 in room A201 at the Justice and Administration Building in Sylva. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public input concerning amendments to the U.S. 441 Development Ordinance.

March 2
TU meeting: The Tuckaseigee Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet on Tuesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the United Community Bank on Highway 107 in Sylva. Summit fifth graders event library: Summit Charter School fifth graders welcome everyone to attend a "meet the press/tea party" at the Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library on March 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. The fifth graders have been working on their own books based on "The Great Kapok Tree" by Lynn Cherry. The community is encouraged to attend.

Free Health Clinic: The Jackson County Department of Public Health holds its general clinic Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. in Sylva. The clinic offers blood pressure checks, vaccinations, TB testing and more. Call (828) 586-8994.

Cashiers Area Community Planning Council: The Planning Council meets the fourth Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Cashiers library unless otherwise announced.
