Laurel Falls Community

The Laurel Falls Community, located approximately 9 miles northeast of Cashiers, was platted into 130 lots on 1,550 acres at the time of its creation.  Lots have since been subdivided and now total 146, of which there are 105 owners, 35 homes (10 of these occupied year round), and several homes under construction.

The gated community of Laurel Falls has 12 miles of gravel roads, most of which began as a result of early logging of the land when it was owned by Liberty Life Insurance Company.  The roads were marginally improved when the Laurel Falls Subdivision was developed in 1983, and further improvement is an ongoing process.  Lot size generally ranges from 3 acres up to 65 acres.  Some of these wooded lots adjoin magnificent Panthertown Valley National Forest.

There are numerous streams and waterfalls within the Laurel Falls community, and it is home to an extensive wildlife population including black bear, grouse, turkey, deer & various songbirds.  Coyote have also been sighted in the area.  The community is listed with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and by vote of the property owners no hunting is allowed.

Nearly every lot contains rhododendron & mountain laurel, and some lots offer flame azaleas, lady slippers, several orchid varieties, Galax, ferns and other exotic plants native to the area.  The summers are cool in Laurel Falls, with elevations of 3800' to 4200'.
