ACTIVITIES OF INTEREST

Visit beautiful Whiteside Mountain which is located just off US Hwy 64 between Cashiers and Highlands.  Whiteside Mountain rises to an elevation of 4,930 feet and is about 390 to 460 million years old.  A two mile loop trail offers outstanding views.  You may see peregrine falcons during the spring and summer. 

Panthertown Valley National Forest, "the Yosemite of the East", approximately nine miles northeast of Cashiers, is home to granite domes, waterfalls, valley floors and rare high altitude bogs. The area holds the headwaters for Greenland and Panthertown Creeks and the East Fork of the Tuckasegee River.  A network of hiking trails will lead you to waterfalls and spectacular overlooks of the valley, its cliff faces, and bogs.

Lake Glenville was completed in October 13, 1941. The size is 4.5 miles long, 1470 acres, and 26 miles of shoreline.  Maximum depth of lake at flood level is 125 feet.  It is the highest lake east of the Mississippi River at approximately 3500 ft elevation with average annual rainfall of 62.9 in.  Four beautiful waterfalls flow into the lake.
